Feel Your Love For Alex Martello

"Bye Bye" was the first time when I got my attention on his music. He's an amazing producer and a really nice guy. He is Alex Martello and the remix of Ron May's song is just one out of many great tracks, he's produced. He likes to say, that you have to believe in what you do, without pursuing success as a goal. And you can feel this through his music - it touches you, changes you and inspires you...

E: Alex, how comes that you became a producer?

A: I have been involved with music since I was a child, taking piano lessons when I was eight and at the same time learning the guitar thanks to my dad! When I was 15 I started djing too…and soon I started to produce songs but hey…my first songs were really bad, even if I think that I know the music and the piano helped me a lot on the arrangement of the track.

E: What is your favourite free time activity?

A: My work! I spent almost all the week in the recording studio; I wake up and just go to the studio, have a lunch and return to the studio, then have a dinner and return to the studio again and maybe later I watch a movie.

E: I’ve noticed that you love to work during the late night hours :) are you being more inspired at this time or why is it so?

A: I don’t know why I work often during the evenening / night / early morning…maybe in another life I was a vampire, maybe it’s because playing in the clubs during the night and until the early morning changes your biorhythm; but probably, yes, during the night time I’m more inspired!

E: What do you think about the house scene in Italy? Any different than the rest of Europe?

A: Honestly? It’s a complete bulls**t! Italians have no idea about what is progressive house music even there are so many people that like that genre. I guess, the main problems are the resident djs in the clubs that play always the same stuff. Anyway, I don’t like at all the Italian House Scene…we’re so damn far from the European sound that you can’t imagine!

E: Your opinion on this year’s WMC?

A: Me and my label crew was planning to go but this year the organization was really, really bad and too many people couldn't decide if they want to go for the WMC or just for Ultra, so we decided to stay in Europe.

E: Can you name 5 artists you wanna work with?

A: Axwell, Dirty South, Thomas Gold, Sebastian Ingrosso and Avicii and many more.

Ron May feat. Kitty - Bye Bye (Alex Martello Rmx) Preview by alexmartello

E: You work with several labels now. Can you tell me something more about the time when you was looking for a company to sign? Do you have any tips for the upcoming producers?

A: Yes, I have a really good tip: Get another job!!! Seriously, right now the music biz is a really, really big mess and you need to work for many years at least to arrive on “medium” level ! When you start producing, you will earn for sure more money workin' at BurgerKing than with music, so you need to spend a lot of time with an uncertain outcome and especially no guarantee of success. Too many people think that success is casual, but it is not! It's thanks to the intense and constant hours of work, and in believing in what you do and in reaching the top someday.

E: Which software do you use for producing and why?

A: Steinberg Cubase 5 on Intel Core i7 Workstation, which I assembled by myself (I love to choose the right components), but I’m switching on Apple Macbook Pro and Logic 9; Even if I strongly believe that the creativity and the talent make the difference in the working process and so… and that software like Logic, Cubase, Protools, FruityLoops are just workin tools, I need to switch again to Logic (I worked on Logic 5 and 6 for several years!) because 90% of Electronic producers use Apple Logic Pro as sequencer and I need to be the most compatible and comfortable as possible for my actual and future collaborations with other producers. Cubase 5 it’s a great sequencer by the way!

E: What do you like more – to do a remix or to work on a complete new track?

A: Remixing because you don’t spend time and concentration on the choice of a good singer, or on writing the lyrics.. you can devote yourself completely to the production and give your 100% on the track!

E: Your influences?

A: Too Many. I use to listen from Mozart to metal bands like Korn, from slow R’n’B music to really rude Gansta Hip Hop. Really...too many and to name some would not be realistic. By the way, Axwell was for me a big influence back then in 2004 when I started following his music and started to produce House Music.

Alex' latest track "Better Day" is currently #16 on Beatport's top 100 progressive house tunes, 2 new releases will follow soon.

Ready 2 Go

Martin Solveig did it again!
His latest single "Ready 2 Go" is a great follow-up to his hit "Hello". This time, Solveig worked with Kele on the vocals and the result is another good-mood-maker :)

The release date is not announced yet, but I hope, that it'll be very soon.
Until then:

By the way, for Martin's German fans - he's having a gig @3001 on 09/04 with Patric La Funk, so this is your chance to listen to "Ready 2 Go" live ;)

with special thanks to Slimi :)

I Definitely Like

When I was on vacation in Bulgaria, I got inspired by many new songs and artists. One of them was the new track by one of Bulgaria's most talented singers Maria Ilieva. The track is called "I like" and it's a bit different from the music, which I usually listen to, but it's so catchy and fresh, that I must share it with you guys :)

Enjoy ;)

Lights out for Mr. Steve Lawler!

Yesterday was my second BIG party night in Sofia. And it was HUGE!

It all started as a joke, because I didn't know who was going to play in the two weeks that I'm here on vacation. But I knew that I definitely wanted to visit my favourite Bulgarian club Yalta. Before I moved to Germany, I used to go there every week. Yalta has style, insanely good music and the best party crowd in the whole world. I'm not saying this, just because I'm a Bulgarian, but because it's true. You should ask Mark Knight, Pete Tong or Fedde Le Grand, they know what I'm talking about :D

So, back on last night - I got very excited when I found out that Steve Lawler was going to have a gig. I went there with a good friend of mine, Hristo Peev - a young DJ from Bulgaria, who has his own radioshow on www.djvibes.org. And I was lucky enough to win myself a guestlist spot :) The party was hosted by Elevate Agency - THE event agency in Bulgaria for excellent house music parties. They had a nice contest and gave everyone a chance to be on the guestlist.

The evening began with an amazing set by Yalta's resident - the young and very talented Liubo Ursiny, who Hernan Cattaneo himself pronounced to be Bulgaria's breaktrough DJ 2010. There's no comment needed, I'm used to listen to great music from Liubo, he knows what he's doing and he's doing it insanely good:)

At about 2am Steve Lawler took over the booth. To be quite honest, I've known him for years as a huge name in the business, but I've never heard him play. So I went there with no expectations. 5 hours later I got home with a really BIG smile one my face, feeling extremly happy that I was at his gig! Steve's a great guy and a great producer. His style includes some deep tech house vibes and his set was exactly what the Bulgarian audience wanted.

The party went on 'till 5:30am, when Steve had to go in order to catch his flight to Italy. My sources told me though, that he was actually invited to play at the WMC in Miami at this very same evening, but he'd choosen to play in Bulgaria instead. So, it didn't really matter to me, if his set was 2, 3 or 5 hours, every single minute of his gig was worth it!

For those of you, who want to see him live, Steve's next shows are:

- 18/03 @ Air, Amsterdam
- 19/03 @ TBC, Budapest
- 19/03 @ Cinema Hall, Budapest
- 25/03 @ Arcadia, Miami
- 26/03 @ Karu & Y, Miami

Absent Minded

Yesterday was really cool! Since I'm on vacation in Bulgaria, I thought that it might be interesting for you to get to know the club scene around my hometown and that's why this is the first out of 3-4 articles about the house music in Sofia.

Back on last night's party: It was a theme-night @ the quite famous bulgarian club Chervilo. I 've always liked the style of the club, it has 2 rooms, one white and one dark. Usually dark stands for R&B music and white for house.

The party yesterday - "Absent Minded" was dedicated to the absent, so everyone had to wear something green and to drink A LOT of absent :D

Not one, not two, but 3 DJs were responsible for our good mood: DOCKOFF, DJ SILVER & C-FUSION. And to be quite honest, I was really looking forward to the performance of DJ Silver. And not just because he's a good friend of mine, but because he's also one of the most talented DJs in Bulgaria. I've known him for 5 years now and his style hasn't changed at all in that time, it's just become more mature.

Silver Ivanov - Absent Minded Mix Feb 2011 by Silver Ivanov

He played some really nice stuff (still waiting for the playlist ;) ) and the crowd loved him. I like the way he plays, his sound is spreading good mood through the entire gig, but it mostly feels like home for me, when I'm at his parties - a lot of great memories are coming up each time he's behind the DJ booth.

And for those of you, who haven't heard of him yet, Silver is having a weekly radioshow on Radio Nova. "Addicted To Music" is on air every Monday from 17:00-19:00 CET. Among his guests are producers like Patric La Funk, Paolo Mojo, but also many DJs from Bulgaria too. If you're interested in his sound, just visit the official MySpace profile of the show on http://www.myspace.com/atmshow or listen to the latest episode on SoundCloud.
