SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA TAKE OVER PETE TONG'S ESSENTIAL SELECTION

I'm sure that you all remember the legendary takeover, which the Swedes did last autumn. And now, five months later, they did it again! Ax, Seb & Steve had the honour to step in for Pete Tong on his Essential Selection for the second time and I believe that I'm not the only one who's really enjoying this. I feel extremly inspired by the tracklist, there were some great new tunes, starting with the brand new song by the Swedish boys. It's called "Greyhound" and I'm happy that I was right! Last December they played it at their show at Madisson Square Garden, but it was still an unknown ID. Nevertheless I posted an article, suspecting it to be Swedish House Mafia's new track. I have to be honest though, this final version, which the guys finished right bevor the radio show isn't doing it for me as much as the MSG one. They've changed the chorus by one or two pitches, actually not that big of a change, and yet, it's sounds different and not so great as the old one.

Continuing with the third song on the tracklist I have to say that although the mashup of Thomas Gold's "Marsch Marsch" & SHM's "Save the world" is really nice, I'm still prefering the original version of both tracks. They are so cool in the first place, why ruining them by making a mashup?

A big bow to Mr. Tommy Trash for doing this great remix on "Ladi Dadi" by Steve Aoki ft. Wynter Gordon. There's really nothing more that I could say to this song, except that it's a masterpiece!

The next track, which cought my attention, is "Yeah" by Steve Angello. Now we know which one of the boys has made the beginning of "One". Is it me or is "Yeah" actually starting with exactly the same snear drum as "One"? Other than that, you can definitelly tell that it's a Steve Angello's track - a full of power progressive house tune with some very tender elements. I like!

Essential Contender #1

What can be said about "Atom" by Nari & Milani, the Essential contender Nr.1? An absolutely massive track! No wonder that Steve released it on SIZE - it suits the style of his label.

Essential Contender #2

The second Essential contender was the vocal version of "Calling" (Loose my mind) by Seb & Alesso. As I already wrote a couple of weeks ago, the song is beautiful, with or without vocals.

Essential New Tune

The Essential "new" tune was quite the dissapointement. Not that I don't love Axwell's remix of "In my mind" by Ivan Gough & Fernixpawl ft. Georgi Kay, but I'm used to hear a new and unreleased track as the essential new tune. "In my mind" was first played by the Swedes at their MSG show last December and was already released on Axtone records last month. That's why I'm not happy with the choice the boys have made.

The next track is probably the most beautiful song played on the show. It'a called "Midnight city" by M83. You just have to love it!

Another great track on the show was "Lights" by the amazing Ellie Goulding. She has such a sexy voice!

Deadmau5 in the mix

Right after Ellie, Joel Zimmerman aka Deadmau5 took over the mixer after a short interview and played several fresh tunes like his own "Brazil" (did I mention how much I love Deadmau5's music?!?:D) & "Maths". This is probably the fist time in my life that I have no problem with maths:D

The first track after Joel's mix was Madeon's "Icarus". I have to give Seb right, Madeon is extremly talented for his young age of 17. And I had the chance to see him live in Cocoon this year, the kid is really good!

Another cool tune on the show was Alesso's "Years". Although it's slightly different from the style of his other productions, I tend to like it very much. You should definitely check it out!

B2B mix by SHM

The mix by the boys started with the new 2011 edition of "AGORa" by Thomas Gold. This track will never be out of style..

The second track went all the way from the UK and right into Steve's studio in Hollywood - the new tune by Chris Lake, called "Build up" and edited by Tommy Trash. I thought that "Sundown" sounded edgy and tough, but Mr. Lake suprises me with every new track he's producing. I looooove it!! In this case, I think that the original version is even better that Tommy's remix, but I'm not quite sure yet...ask me again in two weeks:D

I'm deliberately skipping "Fresh Start" by Max Vangeli and AN21, because the track was played by Pete almost half a year ago, which doesn't makes it bad, I really love it, but it's nothing new and unexpected. I would like to know when it'll finally get released though.

The next track on the show is a huge one. It comes straight from SIZE: Third Party vs. Cicada - Feel.

The closing track was something very special. It reminded me of the time when I first started listening to house music- a mashup of "Mode" by Bingo Players and "I Just can't get enough" by Herd & Fitz feat. the lovely Abigail Bailey.

So...this was it. I really hope that Pete Tong will be taking another Friday off in 2012, because the shows with the Swedes are something very special! I can't wait for the next one :) Until then, we have 4 more days to listen to this one on the BBC Radio 1 player.
