I'm writing almost every week about Tara McDonald as she's clearly my all time favorite singer and song writer. But beside doing her weekly radio show "Shut up and dance", she is also working on her first solo album, having gigs all over the world, promoting her songs, doing photoshoots, being fabulous and, and, and...giving me an interview.
I wanted to know more about my latest obsession called "Fix of you" - the second track of her upcoming album, the album itself and her plans for 2013.
E: How did you come up with the lyrics of "Fix of you"?
T: The inspiration behind "Fix Of You" is about meeting someone and from that first kiss you realise that this is someone you could fall in love with, someone that could have the power to hurt you and that's why the love is dangerous because you can't get enough of it.
E: Do you sing about any man in particular? And if you do, who is he?
T: It is based upon a memory of a bad love from my past…as I'm a lady the man will remain nameless…I never kiss and tell :)
E: When I listen to "Fix of you" I believe I'm hearing some Romanian influences. Is it just me or did you get inspired by one of your many travels?
T: You are exactly right, I have been so lucky in my career to travel to so many countries and I can't help to soak up some of the culture and sounds of these places. The accordion in the track reminds me of Romanian dance music, a little of the south of France and it's also a nod to my Irish roots as the piano accordion is a traditional instrument used in Irish folk music too.
E: I read on Twitter that you're almost done with your first studio album. Do you already have a release date?
T: Yes, that's right, I'm just making the finishing touches to the album now. I plan on finishing the project (hopefully) end of this week and then the album looks like it will be released at the end of Feb, but the physical release may vary country to country, so it's best to watch my website for all details www.taramcdonald.tv
E: I love the cover of "Fix of you" - it's so pure and yet so provocative at the same time. Was it your idea and what is the message?
T: Thank you! That's what we were going for. The main thought behind this photo shoot was to show that when someone gets under your skin, you want them permanently like a tattoo so that's why we got the title "fixed" on my skin. This isn't a real tattoo though, it was made in photoshop (without the pain).
E: Towards the end of "Fix of you" we hear a man's voice rapping. Tell me more about the man behind the voice and why did you choose rap for the song's end?
T: When I was in the studio writing this track I was messing around with one of the producers and we wrote this rap together, it was just for fun at first but I really liked it and wanted to keep it. In my career I have always liked to experiment and this is the first time I have used rap in a song I have written so it's another area for me to explore. There will be more features and remixes of "Fix Of You" to come out soon. I want to keep surprising people and be brave to take risks musically.
E: What are your plans for 2013?
T: My main focus for this year is all about my album, now that I have almost finished making it I'm excited to start promotion and touring again, then I'll start writing the next one :)
